The Legend of Lake Erie Monster Bessie
Bessie is usually imagined as something long enough that a witness never gets a comfortable look at the whole animal. Accounts describe a dark or gray body rolling through the water, a snake-like head, several humps, an enormous wake, or a shape that seems to keep going long after an ordinary fish should have disappeared. The details are anything but consistent. Across the larger Lake Erie tradition, the supposed creature has also been given fins, a horse-like head, bright eyes, spots, a pointed tail and other features that change from report to report.
